Roberto Notarfrancesco
(1968, Maracay, Venezuela) is a provocative and daring painter whose works center on human figures, often depicted en masse in situations of torture and agony.
In his large-scale, dramatic paintings, Notarfrancesco fuses the sacred with the profane, situating religious imagery alongside erotic scenes.
He uses dark and intense tones to heighten the tension present in his images, alluding to and constantly exalting the existence of an eternal realm beyond the finite reality of Earth. Notarfrancesco is a graduate of the Rafael Monasterios School of Visual Arts in Maracay, where he studied from 1986 until 1990.
He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions since 1988, including a solo show at the Lucernaire Centre National d’Art et d’Essai in Paris, France, and group exhibitions at the Galerie Des Artistes du Monde and the Espace Eiffel, both in 1999.
Notarfrancesco’s work has received critical attention and he was awarded fourth place in the Maracay Municipal Art Contest in 1992 and the drawing prize at the VI Francisco Martí Visual Arts Contest in Calabozo in 1996, among others.
