Onofre Frías
(1953, Tacarigua de Mamporal, Venezuela) is considered one of the most prolific and versatile painters in Venezuela, whose work depicts the exuberant flora and landscape of his native country.
During his more than thirty years of artistic production, Frías has experimented with a range of different materials to create his particular vision of the idiosyncracies of the Caribbean, its people, music and street life, moving between painting, objects, design and sculpture with equal vigor.
His resumé features a long list of solo and group exhibitions both in Venezuela, France, Malta, United States and Italy. Frías has also won a number of important awards, including first place at the Aragua National Art Contest in Venezuela in 1996 and second place in the Painting category of the Arturo Michelena Art Contest in Valencia 1994.
His work is represented by numerous art collections, including the Latin American Art Museum in Washington D.C., the Sala Mendoza, Museum of Fine Arts, and Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas, and the Museum of Modern Art in Bogota, Colombia, among others.
