VISUAL ART SUR (“VAS”) is pleased to announce that during the first week of October it will be conducting a series of cultural activities in the Stamford area culminating with a Latin American Art Exhibit on October 6th, 2011 in Greenwich. Among the many pieces in the exhibit there will be works by renowned Venezuelan artists Solange Salazar, Angel Mieres and Margaret Salazar who will be present on the opening night. In addition, the colorful and polychromatic works of Onofre Frias will be on display, along with works by Nela Ochoa, Enrique Lobo, Bruno Garcia and Jose Vivenes, among others.

The week-long series of events organized by VAS begins on Sunday October  2nd with an art workshop for disadvantaged children organized in conjunction with Neighbor Links Stamford (“NLS”) and students from King Low Heywood Thomas in Stanford. NLS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen community ties by actively enhancing the healthy integration of recent immigrants. The workshop will be guided by Solange Salazar, Angel Mieres and Margaret Salazar who will teach creative styles and ideas to inspire the children to create their own artistic expressions. All the art pieces created in the workshop will be part of a permanent new vibrant display at the NLS center that looks to promote continued community.

On Monday October 3rd, there will be a workshop organized in conjunction with the art department of King Low Heywood Thomas in Stamford, where the artists will guide of group of students to create free individual pieces based on the abstract impressionist technique of ‘drip painting” best known by the work of American Master painter Jackson Pollock.

Finally, on Thursday October 6th, a Latin American open-house exhibition denominated LATINTEMPO will be held in Greenwich. A portion of the proceeds of LATINTEMPO will benefit NLS.
